Exams at SFPH are done by appointment during regular office hours.
Give us a call and a receptionist will set a time for you.
First time clients
Having your pet's complete medical history
is
important in providing quality vet care.
Most veterinary offices will forward patients'
records to other facilities if requested.
Our fax number is 415-931-9267.
Checkups
We honor SFSPCA’s and SFACC’s offer of a free first exam.
Call us for an appointment within 3 days of adopting your pet.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations can be done by a doctor during an exam, or by a technician if the animal has been examined here within 12 months. For adult cats and dogs, we vaccinate every three years in most cases.
Spay and neuter services
Spaying and neutering cuts down on the increasing population of homeless animals. Our doctors perform complete ovarian hysterectomies for females and castration for males. This also greatly reduces the risk of some hormone related diseases (breast, uteran and testicular cancer among these) later in life.
Boarding for cats
Please call a few days ahead to reserve a space for boarding, except for major holidays.
For Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas, call a month in advance.
*We do not have facilities for boarding dogs.
Check out our links section for info on boarding dogs in San Francisco.
Health certificates
When you come for the exam, bring along the address of where you or your pet is going. This is part of the information required for the certificate. Check out our links section for questions about traveling with pets. The USDA has the latest news on state and international requirements.
Microchipping
Like vaccines, microchips can be implanted during a regular exam with a doctor,
or by a
technician
if the animal
has
been seen in the last 12 months.
The chips we supply
are made by Avid.
We have U.S. and Eurochips.
We do insertion of the chip, scan to
make sure
it can be read, and get the paperwork started for you.
Dentistry
SF Pet Hospital is a strong advocate of dental health for pets.
We offer tips on brushing and other ways pet owners can help prevent tooth decay /gum disease in their furry friends. Our doctors routinely do oral exams during checkups and suggest dental cleanings when needed.
A dog or cat having a dental procedure will stay the day with us. Cleanings are done under anesthesia with an ultrasonic scaler (the same as most human dentists use).
Pharmacy
San Francisco Pet Hospital has a comprehensive pet pharmacy for your convenience. We can even order specially prepared and deliciously flavored medications for the hard-to-pill pet! We also have hypo allergenic and sensitive skin shampoos, flea and tick prevention items, heartworm preventative, and an assortment of pet care products (vitamins, hairball preventative, flea combs, nail trimmers, etc.)
Laboratory Services
We can do most routine testing (fecal, urine, blood, tissue).
Cultures, biopsies, vaccine titers and comprehensive blood tests are sent to an outside lab.
Radiology/ultrasound and scoping are done on site.
Puppy/Kitten Packages
Packages include initial exam, technician exams and vaccines up to 16 weeks (or whenever
final vaccine is recommended), fecal exam and deworming (heartworm preventative for
puppies included also), and a nail trim.
