This schedule is simply a guideline. You may skip some feedings at the beginning if you will be unable to do them all. The idea is just to build up to the final amount by gradually increasing food volume and decreasing the number of feedings. Please call if residuals are consistently more than 15 mL, or if your pet is vomiting.

You will begin checking residuals at the second feeding (marked below) before giving additional food.  If you get less than 15 mL of residuals, return the residuals and continue as scheduled.  If you get more than 15mL residuals, return the residuals and skip that feeding.  If you continually get residuals greater than 15 mL and have skipped a few feedings in a row, please call us and speak with your technician or doctor.

Always follow feedings with 5 mL of water to flush the tube clean.

The items below are to be given through the stomach tube, NOT BY MOUTH.

When giving medications, crush and mix in the food.

Day 1:
Give 5 mL of water every 2 hours for 3 feedings.
Then give 5 mL of food then flush every 2 hours.
Begin checking residuals as described above before the second feeding.
Give 1/4 tab Reglan three times a day.

Day 2:
Check residuals before every feeding.
Give 10 mL of food then flush every 2 to 3 hours for 6 feedings.
Give Baytril _____tab once a day.
Give Reglan 3 times a day.

Day 3:
Check residuals before every feeding.
Give 15 mL food then flush every 4 hours for 5 feedings.
Give the following three times a day:
Vitamin E - 2cc Reglan - 1/4 tab
Give the following twice a day:
Vitamin B-12 - 1/4 tab
L-Carnitine - 1 tab
Taurine - 1/4 tab
Zinc -1/4 tab
Give Baytril - _____ tab once a day

Day 4:
Check residuals before every feeding.
Give 20 mL food then flush every 6 hours for three to four feedings.
Give the following three times a day:
Vitamin E - 2cc Reglan - 1/4 tab
Give the following twice a day:
Vitamin B-12 - 1/4 tab
L-Carnitine - 1 tab
Taurine - 1/4 tab
Zinc -1/4 tab
Give Baytril - _____ tab once a day

Day 5:
Check residuals before every feeding.
Give 25 mL food then flush every 6 hours for three to four feedings.
Give the following three times a day:
Vitamin E - 2cc Reglan - 1/4 tab
Give the following twice a day:
Vitamin B-12 - 1/4 tab
L-Carnitine - 1 tab
Taurine - 1/4 tab
Zinc -1/4 tab

Give Baytril - _____ tab once a day

Day 6:
Check residuals before every feeding.
Give 30 mL food then flush every 8 hours for three feedings.
Give the following three times a day:
Vitamin E - 2cc Reglan - 1/4 tab
Give the following twice a day:
Vitamin B-12 - 1/4 tab
L-Carnitine - 1 tab
Taurine - 1/4 tab
Zinc -1/4 tab
Give Baytril - _____ tab once a day

Day 7:
Check residuals before every feeding.
Give 38 mL of food then flush four times a day
OR
Give 50 mL of food then flush three times a day.
Give the following three times a day:
Vitamin E - 2cc Reglan - 1/4 tab
Give the following twice a day:
Vitamin B-12 - 1/4 tab
L-Carnitine - 1 tab
Taurine - 1/4 tab
Zinc -1/4 tab
Give Baytril - _____ tab once a day

Maintain this schedule as long as there are less than 15 mL of residuals and there is no vomiting.
Have water out at all times.
Have food available starting with Day 5.

DO NOT even show your pet food before Day 5.

Sample of Day 1:
8am:  Gave 5 mL water and Reglan
10am: Gave 5 mL water
12pm: Gave 5 mL water
2:30pm: Gave 5 mL food with Reglan then flushed
4:30pm: Checked residuals = 8mL; gave 5 mL food then flushed
6:30pm: Residuals = 16mL; skipped feeding
8pm: Residuals = 4mL; gave 5 mL food then flushed
10pm: Residuals = 10 mL; gave 5mL food with Reglan then flushed

Sample of Day 3:
7am: Residuals = 5mL; gave 15mL food with Reglan, Vit E, Vit B-12, L-Camitine, Taurine, and Zinc then flushed.
11am: Residuals = 12mL; gave 15mL food with Baytril then flushed.
3pm: Residuals = 19mL; skipped feeding
6pm: Residuals = 7 mL; gave 15 mL food with Reglan, then flushed.
10pm: Residual = 10 mL; gave 15 mL food with Reglan, Vit E, Vit B-12, L-Camitine, Taurine, and Zinc then flushed.

Note: 'cc' and 'mL' are the same measurement and are interchangeable.
